Dear more secret blog,
guess what I did this weekend? Well there are a lot of things. We don't have school on fridays here so the weekend starts for me thursday night at 6 pm. This week on thursday we hit up the market and got enough food for an enormous feast. After class had a siesta (something which is common for us especially on weekends) until it was time to begin preparing food around 8. me, the roommates and jimmy made ravioli, sausage and peppers, and homemade alfredo sauce, along with bread, an antipasto of mozzarella and tomatoes, and wine. what a great dinner! We have been cooking this much basically every day. After dinner, we'd planned to hit up the bars on the Tiber again but, being late in the season, we discovered that they were closed on thursdays and instead had a dangerous riverside walk with tons of hobos (yikes). Ended up in Trastevere, a trendy spot for the young people, and downed some cheap peroni and ran into tons of people from the program. We met our first authentic italians and got to practice conversation for a long time! It was great!
Friday did homework and went shopping with Alex before jimmy and gustavo came over for dinner. Some of jimmy's art friends came out with us as we went in search of THE GAY DANCING CLUB. Unfortunately it was super far away and we got lost, so we found ourselves stranded at the Tiburtina metro stop around midnight. Hopped the metro B to the colosseum, where they were doing an art piece that made it look like it was on fire. Pretty crazy. fortunately gus gus knew where the other gay bar was, so we went there for some cocktails. Met more italians and got really drunk and practiced words more! I talked politics with them a little bit and they didn't like Berlusconi either, and that ruled. We walked with them all the way to Piazza Navona (a due minuti walk, they assured us, even though it took at least 40 minuti) and tried to get into some discotec. Ended up walking all the way home.
Yesterday awoke early and took a million different trains and buses to get to THE NUDE BEACH. Sadly the weather was very poor and it was windy and cloudy as hell, so we weren't even sure if it was the right place at first, until we saw some naked people! Dick in public! We dutifully disrobed too and were immediately hassled by a wide assortment of eastern european tradesmen peddling their wares on the beach. One was from morrocco and tried to sell us tapestries and wouldn't leave even though we told him to in a variety of different languages. Mind you, we are laying in the sun naked and this fucker is just hovering around us trying to sell us 20 euro blankets on the beach. He liked jess a lot. "I love you. I see you after?" NO. So we harshly and immediately yelled at every subsequent merchant. On the train home we saw a million beautiful germans. After a much-needed siesta we got some pizzas and went out in search of a jazz bar that purportedly existed. Couldn't find it so we just went to stupid piazza navona and campo di fiori again. Went into the discotec from the previous night and it was mad creepers, but i guess that's what discotecs are all about.
This morning jess and i went to mass and burger king. it was just like being at home. Finally, tonight we are going to see the misfits who are somehow, for some reason, playing in roma. Very very very excited
